ART EXHIBITION: Juvenile In Justice: Photographs by Richard Ross
Location: Ulrich Museum of Art and Cadman Art Gallery at the WSU Rhatigan Student Center
Cost: Free

On any given day, some 70,000 young people in the U.S. are in juvenile detention or correctional facilities. Culled from images and interview excerpts of more than 1,000 juveniles at over 300 facilities in 31 states, including Kansas, this exhibition examines the lives of American children behind bars.

Richard Ross works have been exhibited worldwide. He has won Guggenheim and Fulbright Fellowships and received grants from the National Education Association and Annie E. Casey Foundation.

The exhibition will be available for viewing at the Ulrich Museum from Jan. 25 until April 13.

Wednesday through Friday, 11 a.m. to 8 p.m.
Saturday and Sunday, 12 to 6 p.m.

ART EXHIBITION: On Repeat: Selections from the Collection
Location: Ulrich Museum of Art, Wichita State University
Cost: Free

Limited means can incite a wild proliferation of ideas. On Repeat brings together a diverse range of artwork from the Ulrich's permanent collection that demonstrates how artists use repetition in ways that go beyond pure formalism.

The artistic responses range from Margaret Bourke-White's rhythmic photographs of industry in the early 20th century to Los Carpinteros' catalogue of banned books on measuring tapes. This exhibition will also include work by Nic Nicosia, John F. Simon, Jr., Sol LeWitt, and John and Joe Dumbacher.

The exhibition will be available for viewing at the Ulrich Museum from Jan. 25 until March 23.

ART EXHIBITION: The Clan of Munes: Frederick J. Waugh
Location: Ulrich Museum of Art, Wichita State University
Cost: Free

Ulrich Museum core collection artist, American marine painter Frederick J. Waugh, wrote and illustrated the children�s fantasy book The Clan of Munes in 1916. The Ulrich will exhibit all twenty-eight original drawings for the book along with two �mune� creatures, created by Waugh from gnarled spruce tree roots.

The exhibition will be open for viewing at the Ulrich Museum from Jan. 25 to April 13.

WSU Organ Day
Location: Wiedemann Hall

Once again, the organ class of WSU and professor Lynne Davis welcome you to attend the annual Organ Day. We will gather around the world-famous Danish Marcussen organ which celebrates its 27th anniversary this year to discover this "King of Instruments."

Attendees will also be able to learn how this tremendous instrument works by touring the inside of the organ case. Finally, we will close with an informal concert by all those who wish to play, including the School of Music organ students.

Be sure and purchase the newly-released CD, "Lynne Davis at the Marcussen Organ in Wiedemann Hall." All proceeds will go to the organ scholarship fund.

Visit the Observatory to look through the big telescope at a gas giant planet, the spectrum of a bright star, a multiple star system, clusters of stars, and glowing clouds of gas and dust as we discuss how the secrets of stars are revealed.

This event is free with a valid student ID.

Astronomy: Photography - Orion Nebula
Location: Lake Afton Observatory

Ever wondered how astronomers find out how hot, massive or big a star is or what it is made of?

Visit the Observatory to look through the big telescope at a gas giant planet, the spectrum of a bright star, a multiple star system, clusters of stars and glowing clouds of gas as we discuss how the secrets of stars are revealed.

Admission is $5 for adults and $3 for children ages 6-12. Children under 6 are admitted free. Special family rate is $15.00 for two parents and their immediate minor children or grandchildren.

Directions: The observatory is located approximately 20 miles southwest of downtown Wichita on MacArthur Road at 247th Street West in Lake Afton County Park. It is immediately north of the lake, just off MacArthur Road. Lake Afton can be reached by any of the following routes: west from Wichita on U.S. 54 to the Lake Afton sign at Viola Road three miles past Goddard, then three miles south and one mile east; or southwest on K-42, seven miles to Schulte and nine miles west on MacArthur.
