Art:21 Preview Party: SystemsOrganization, arrangements, classifications and structures mark the systems of artists featured in the final installment of Art:21 Season Five. Season Five marks the third time that the Ulrich has collaborated with local organizations to provide public preview parties. Audiences see the newest episode, in its entirety, before release on PBS. Join your friends to see the latest in art of the 21st century. Enjoy refreshments, drawings for Art:21 books and DVDs and conversation about the artists and ideas that shape contemporary life. American John Baldessari pairs text with images while carefully critiquing cultural conventions. Korean artist Kimsooja systematically investigates performance and the role of the artist. American Allan McCollum explores repetition and mass production in everyday items. Ethiopian Julie Mehretu analyzes social and political structures in international politics through large-scale paintings. This event is part of Art21 Access '09, a celebration of contemporary art and Season 5 of Art:21-Art in the Twenty-First Century sponsored by Art21. WSU A Cappella Choir and Women's EnsembleThe WSU A Cappella Choir, Women’s Choir along with special guest choir, the Winfield High School A Cappella Choir, will present “Songs for Life.” The A Cappella choir, Dr. Tom Wine, director, is preparing a musical journey with songs celebrating youth, joy, sacrifice and love. One of the truly unique pieces on the program is a setting of the Civil War ballad, "The Vacant Chair." The WSU Women’s' Choir, Stephanie Gilmore, director, will present the world premier of a composition by Dr. Wine titled, "If You Love for Beauty." The Winfield High School Concert Choir, Matt Berthot, director, is preparing a program that is full of contemporary choral literature. Their program includes two rousing Spirituals along with a piece based on tone clusters. It is a rich tapestry of the choral styles from a variety of musical genres.
