Astronomy: Celebrity Craters
2-day event: 11/15/2013 - 11/16/2013
Location: Lake Afton Observatory

If you're more interested in objects a bit closer to home, the Lake Afton Public Observatory will also feature "Celebrity Craters." The craters on the surface of the Moon are, for the most part, named after famous scientists. Get a close-up look at some of the more notable lunar craters, and learn more about both the crater and the person whom it was named after. This program also includes observing a gas giant planet in our solar system. "Celebrity Craters" will be presented from 8-10 p.m. on Friday and Saturday evenings, September 13-14; and from 7:30-10 p.m. on Friday and Saturday evenings, October, 11-12, 18-19, November 8-9, 15-16, and December 6-7 and 13-14.

Admission
Adults - $5
Children ages 6-12 - $3
Children under 6 - free
There is a special family rate where two parents and their immediate minor children or grandchildren get in for $15.

The observatory is located about 20 miles southwest of downtown Wichita on MacArthur Road at 247th Street West in Lake Afton County Park. It is immediately north of the lake, just off MacArthur Road. Lake Afton can be reached by any of the following routes: west from Wichita on U.S. 54 to the Lake Afton sign at Viola Road three miles past Goddard, then three miles south and one mile east; or southwest on K-42, 7 miles to Schulte and nine miles west on MacArthur.
