Foster unflinchingly paints her everyday experience as a mother to five children and her loving, yet complicated, familial relationships. Her paintings boldly demonstrate the complexities of being a parent and the multi-dimensionality of female identity.

Exhibition: Nature's Toolbox: Biodiversity, Art and Invention

"Nature's Toolbox: Biodiversity, Art and Invention" is an exhibition of the works of more than 40 international artists in a wide range of media. Harnessing technology and inspired by nature's amazing design concepts, the show's innovative, eye-capturing art helps us understand and appreciate the life-or-death interdependence between the 10-20 million species on earth, including humans and the quality of the environment we share.

WSU Impulse Percussion Group
Location: Duerksen Fine Arts Center, Miller Concert Hall (Located in the )

WSU's School of Music Impulse Percussion Group presents Feeling the Vibe! a Rendezvous with Doug Walter, Jazz vibraphonist and composer.

Professor of Percussion Douglas Wm. Walter is the only marimba and vibraphone artist to have won first prize in the Concert Artists Guild Competition in New York City. He has performed more than 300 solo recitals and concerts throughout 40 states, Canada, Brazil and eight countries in Europe, in addition to international conventions of the Percussive Arts Society, International Association of Jazz Educators and MENC. An accomplished orchestral musician, Dr. Walter has performed with the Dallas, Fort Worth, Oregon and Santa Fe Operas, Colorado Ballet and Philadelphia Orchestras.

He is Principal with the Boulder Philharmonic, Colorado Music Festival and Sunriver Music Festival Orchestras. He has toured for 20 years with the Westminster Brass. As a jazz musician he has recorded (on drum set and vibes) with Michael Pagan, the UNT 1:00 Lab Band, the Modest Jazz Trio, the Lawless Jazz ensemble, The CU Jazz Asylum Faculty Quintet, the DAD Trio and the Doug Walter Vibraphone Trio. Dr. Walter holds a dual BM degree from North Texas State U., summa cum laude, two master's degrees in orchestral conducting and percussion from the University of Michigan and a DMA degree from Temple University, where he studied with Alan Abel and David Samuels. Dr. Walter's compositions are published by Dutch Music Partners, Matrix Publishing and Alfred. He endorses Encore Mallets, Sabian Cymbals and Yamaha Mallet Instruments.
