Exhibition: MFA Thesis Exhibition: Rachel Foster
32-day event: 11/15/2013 - 12/16/2013
Location: Ulrich Museum of Art

The Ulrich Museum of Art is proud to present paintings by MFA candidate, Rachel Foster. Foster unflinchingly paints her everyday experience as a mother to five children and her loving, yet complicated, familial relationships. Her paintings boldly demonstrate the complexities of being a parent and the multi-dimensionality of female identity.

Astronomy: Exploring the Milky Way
2-day event: 11/29/2013 - 11/30/2013
Location: Lake Afton Observatory

The Milky Way is not just a hazy streak of distant stars visible in the night sky on a clear, dark night. "Exploring the Milky Way," one of the programs featured at the Lake Afton Public Observatory from September through December, will investigate some of the wondrous objects found in our galaxy.

During this program visitors will have the opportunity to observe a gas giant planet in our solar system; multiple star systems; clouds of interstellar gas and dust; clusters of stars; and a nearby spiral galaxy much like the Milky Way. While visitors are observing these objects through the telescope, the Observatory staff will share some of the amazing facts about them.

"Exploring the Milky Way" will be presented from 7:30-10 p.m. on Friday and Saturday evenings, October 4-5, 25-26, November 1-2, 22-23, 29-30, and December 20-21.

Admission
Adults: $5
Children ages 6-12: $3
Children under 6: free
There is a special family rate where two parents and their immediate minor children or grandchildren get in for $15.

The observatory is located about 20 miles southwest of downtown Wichita on MacArthur Road at 247th Street West in Lake Afton County Park. It is immediately north of the lake, just off MacArthur Road. Lake Afton can be reached by any of the following routes: west from Wichita on U.S. 54 to the Lake Afton sign at Viola Road three miles past Goddard, then three miles south and one mile east; or southwest on K-42, 7 miles to Schulte and nine miles west on MacArthur.

For more information, call 316-978-3991 or email robert.henry@wichita.edu.
Open to the public.
