WSU Symphony OrchestraLocation: Duerksen Fine Arts Center, Miller Concert Hall
Faculty artist Sarunas Jankauskas will appear as a soloist with the Wichita State University Symphony Orchestra. As Principal Clarinet of the Wichita Symphony Orchestra, Jankauskas will perform Dan Welcher's Clarinet Concerto. The composer, a longtime faculty member at the University of Texas at Austin, wrote the concerto in 1989, incorporating elements of blues and swing. The concert will also feature Tchaikovsky's Symphony No. 6 ("Pathetique"), the composer's final, intensely personal contribution to the genre. "Slalom," a rollicking, lightning-fast overture by contemporary composer Carter Pann, will open the program. Associate Professor of Music and Director of Orchestras Mark Laycock will conduct.
