WSU Madrigals and WSU Women's Glee ClubLocation: Wiedemann Hall The WSU choral department presents "The Good Life: RITMO CALIENTE." The Women's Glee Club, Dr. Michael Hanawalt, director, will perform a program celebrating four stages of life. Henry Purcell's "Sound the Trumpet," from his "ode Come Ye Sons of Art," invokes the joyful vigor of youth. Aaron Copland's "Laurie's Song," an aria from "The Tender Land," explores the idea of growing up and becoming an adult. György Orbán's "Kyrie" from his "Mass No. 6" depicts the reflective nature of one's mature years. Finally, Ysaye Barnwell's "Wanting Memories," from the song suite "Crossings," reflects on the loss of a parent. The WSU Madrigal Singers presents "RITMO CALIENTE (Hot Rhythms)," a program featuring a variety of Spanish language songs from Spain, Mexico and several other Latin-American countries. The topics are universal: Love (Te Quiero), Faith (Esto les Digo) and music (Yo le Canto Todo el Dia). The excitement of Cuban folk rhythms permeates "Son de Camaguey" and percussion dominates the texture of "El Almuercero." With all of these "hot rhythms" it is nice that the concert includes some water songs ("Cantos del Agua"). The Madrigals, directed by Dr. Tom Wine, are a select 16-voice ensemble known for presenting a variety of vocal styles. This unique excursion into the music of Spanish music brings several international influences to the concert stage. Tickets for this event go on sale April 4 and are available for $7 with discounts available. Purchase tickets online at http://www.wichita.edu/j/?1966. For tickets, please call the WSU Fine Arts Box Office at 316-978-3233. For more information, contact Tom Wine at 316-978-3103. Open to the public. Sponsored by: The WSU School of Music $
