Exhibition: Nature's Toolbox: Biodiversity, Art and Invention

"Nature's Toolbox: Biodiversity, Art and Invention" is an exhibition of the works of more than 40 international artists in a wide range of media. Harnessing technology and inspired by nature's amazing design concepts, the show's innovative, eye-capturing art helps us understand and appreciate the life-or-death interdependence between the 10-20 million species on earth, including humans and the quality of the environment we share.

Service in the City- Kansas Food Bank

Free Admission

September is National Hunger Awareness month and begins WSU's efforts to in increase Hunger Awareness. This service project will be a collaboration of faculty, staff and students to support the Kansas Food Bank.

This facility has the largest distribution network in the United States. Volunteers may be packing holiday boxes, take home bags or sorting donations. This will be a part of the Food Bank's Hunger Awareness Day.

Current Wichita State students can pick up free tickets with a valid Shocker ID card at the University Bookstore, Heskett Center or at the ticket office in Charles Koch Arena.

General admission adult: $8
General admission discount: $6*#
General admission group: $5**

# Faculty and staff members are eligible to receive discounted price for volleyball season and single game tickets (limit of 2 tickets).
* Discount applies to children 2-12 and adults over the age of 65
** Group discount for purchases of 10 or more tickets in advance of the gates opening

Lecture: Implementation of the Affordable Care Act

Commissioner Sandy Praeger will be speaking about the changing health care system in the state and the country. She was elected as Kansas Commissioner of Insurance in 2002. She was reelected in 2006, and again in 2010.

Commissioner Praeger is responsible for regulating all insurance sold in Kansas and overseeing the nearly 1,700 insurance companies and more than 100,000 agents licensed to do business in the state. www.wichita.edu/luzzati

WSU Symphony Orchestra
Location: Duerksen Fine Arts Center: Miller Concert Hall

Doors open an hour before show time. (Please plan to arrive early to avoid lines.) Open to the public.

Faculty artist David Hunsicker, trumpet, will appear as soloist with the WSU Symphony Orchestra Thursday, September 19, at 7:30pm, in Miller Concert Hall.

Hunsicker, who also serves as Principal Trumpet of the Wichita Symphony, will perform selections by contemporary American composers Ernest Bloch and Vincent Persichetti. The orchestra will also present Beethoven's Sixth Symphony ("Pastoral"), a tuneful and dramatic work distinguished by its five-movement structure and vividly programmatic content. The program will open with Tempus Fugit, a vibrant, rollicking piece by Michigan composer Cindy McTee.
