Lecture: The brave new world of HIV/AIDS prevention

Dr. Michael Hendry is a world-renowned virologist and public health researcher. Much of his work since 1985 has focused on HIV and biomedical interventions to reduce HIV transmission. He began working in HIV in Africa in 1987, and has also been active in Brazil and Thailand. He is chief of the HIV Laboratory Branch, Division of HIV/AIDS Prevention at the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention in Atlanta. Dr. Hendry is the author of more than 85 scientific manuscripts and book chapters and holds five U.S. and worldwide patents. His laboratories focus on HIV diagnostics, preclinical evaluation of vaccines and other biomedical interventions to decrease or block HIV infectivity, domestic and international clinical studies, and emerging human retroviruses. He held positions with the Federal Drug Administration, California Department of Public Health and Wyeth Research prior to joining the CDC.
