Based on Alex Haley's best-selling novel about his African ancestors, Roots follows the generations of a slave family, beginning with Kunta Kinte, a West African youth captured by slave raiders and shipped to America in the 1700s and continuing until the Civil War where Kunte Kinte's grandson gains emancipation. Discover the roots of Black History month and how the art of literature and film convey a lasting story across generations.
