His current research interests focus upon intersocietal exchange, the organization of subsistence economies, and sociopolitical systems of small-scale societies. During 2005 two archaeological projects which examined historic period sites in the upper Texas panhandle were conducted. The first of these projects consisted of a systematic pedestrian survey to locate historic period Indian encampments along the Wolf Creek drainage. In contrast to many pedestrian surveys, these investigations relied extensively upon metal detectors as an important tool for locating historic period sites. This fieldwork resulted in the discovery of approximately 20 previously undocumented historic Indian encampments. The second project consisted of large-scale geophysical survey and open block excavations at a military supply depot along the Canadian River. This supply depot was established as part of General Phil Sheridan's 1868 Winter Campaign against the Southern Plains tribes. This presentation presents a brief overview of these two projects and the material remains recovered.All AASCK meetings are open to the public.
