Set in 1964 in the deep south during the early days of the Civil Rights Movement, Violet follows the growth and enlightenment of a bitter young woman accidentally scarred by her father as a young girl. The musical is based on the book, The Ugliest Pilgrim by Doris Betts, with music by Jeannine Tesori (composer of "Thoroughly Modern Millie" and "Shrek") and book and lyrics by Brian Crawley. One of the most acclaimed off-Broadway shows of the 90's, Violet astounded critics and audiences with its powerful story and energetic score. The show will be directed by WSU Alumnus Stephen Kopel, who is now a Casting Director at Carnahan's Agency and Roundabout Theatre in New York City. (Rating PG)
