Born into poverty, Ernie Davis overcomes many obstacles to get into Syracuse University's football program. Under the guidance of Coach Ben Schwartzwalder, Davis becomes one of the school's best players, even surpassing Jim Brown's achievements. In 1961 Davis becomes the first black player to win the Heisman Trophy, but there is one more obstacle in his life that he must overcome.

Join the Office of Multicultural Affairs as we watch the film The Express. Following the film, WSU's own legend, Linwood Sexton, will share his stories about the discrimination he experienced and overcame as a student athlete in the 1940s. Sexton was the first African-American to graduate with a bachelor's in education from the Missouri Valley Conference and to be named three times to the MVC All-Conference team in football in the 1940s. Do not miss this dynamic film, and chance to meet one of WSU's trailblazers.
