Location: Duerksen Fine Arts Center, Miller Concert HallTwo of WSU’s fine jazz combos will be featured in this concert. Combo Red 11 will present Kendall Wohaska, guitar, and Cortland Mahoney, violin, in a quartet with Seth Carrithers on bass and Scott Taylor on drums. Their music is an original and appealing blend of rock, classical and jazz with all the compositions coming from members of the quartet. The second combo on the program, the Quintet R&B, will add a contemporary gospel and hip-hop flair to their presentation of jazz standards such as “My Funny Valentine,” Charlie Parker’s “Moose the Mooche” and “When Sunny Gets Blue.” Look out for the piano stylings of Jarius Beard, well-known in the Wichita area for his work in the gospel field.
