Carolyn Shaw, associate professor of political science at Wichita State University, has been awarded a Fulbright Scholar grant to lecture at Marie Curie Sklodowskiej University in Lublin, Poland, during the 2010-2011 academic year.
Shaw will be teaching Post-Conflict Peacebuilding and International Relations Theory.
Shaw is one of about 1,100 U.S. faculty and professionals who will travel abroad through the Fulbright U.S. Scholar Program.
The Fulbright Program is the flagship international educational exchange program sponsored by the U.S. government and is designed to increase mutual understanding between the people of the United States and the people of other countries.
With this goal as a starting point, the Fulbright Program has provided almost 300,000 participants — chosen for their academic merit and leadership potential — with the opportunity to study, teach and conduct research, exchange ideas and contribute to finding solutions to shared international concerns.
Recipients of Fulbright awards are selected on the basis of academic or professional achievement, as well as demonstrated leadership potential in their fields.
"The selection of Fulbright Scholars is very competitive, and I'm really pleased to be among the small group of scholars selected to participate in the program this year," Shaw said.
