Sept. 3, 2026 — On May 3, a satellite prototype created at Wichita State was launched into low space orbit by NASA. On Aug. 4, when the first delivery of data came through, Professor Nickolas Solomey and his entire team of faculty and students breathed a huge sigh of relief.

Aug. 31, 2026 - Some of the newest and boldest ideas in space exploration will be featured Sept. 15-17 at the NASA Innovative Advanced Concepts Symposium at Wichita State University.

Aug. 18, 2026 — For the 15th consecutive year, more community college students chose Wichita State University to complete their academic goals than any other university in Kansas.

Aug. 8, 2026 — "Long Echo" is a documentary marking the 50th anniversary of the Holiday Inn shooting in downtown Wichita. Derek Landwehr, a graduate student at Wichita State University, worked as director of photography on the film, which airs on Aug. 11 on KPTS.

Aug. 6, 2026 – Wichita State graduate student Cara Gerhardt has been named as the inaugural recipient of the Janice M. Riordan Endowed Doctoral Nursing Fellowship by the Ascension Via Christi-Wichita State University School of Nursing and WSU Foundation and Alumni Engagement.

July 30, 2026 — Five Wichita State University faculty and staff members will be featured in a weeklong takeover of NPR's "The Academic Minute," sharing research on topics that include public health, artificial intelligence in education, advanced space manufacturing and particle physics.

June 10, 2026 — Wichita State University is preparing students and families for significant updates to federal financial aid programs scheduled to take effect July 1 as part of new federal legislation commonly referred to as the One Big Beautiful Bill.

May 20, 2026 — Dr. Moriah Beck, Talaty Endowed Research Professor of Chemistry and Biochemistry at Wichita State University, has been elected a 2025 Fellow of the American Association for the Advancement of Science, one of the world’s largest and most prestigious scientific societies.

May 13, 2026 - Wichita State’s faculty and admissions staff took the time to learn about Rafael Guereque’s plans for life, and that personal attention brought him to campus. At WSU, he participated in clubs and organizations, learned alongside Wichita Police Department officers and built a foundation for his next phase. 

May 13, 2026 - Wichita State University’s numerous scholarships helped Wichitan Edna Flores Cisneros earn a degree by minimizing financial stress.

April 30, 2026 - The WSU-led CubeSat project started in 2016. Launch into low earth orbit by NASA will allow researchers to look at the sun in a new way and perform experiments not possible on earth with solar neutrinos.

April 30, 2026 — Wichita State University has selected Wichita Northwest High School senior Dulce Torres Gonzalez as the 2026 recipient of the $34,000 Mark and Stacy Parkinson Scholarship.

April 29,  2026  —  Manuel Salamanca shaped his Wichita State experience through hands-on aerospace engineering work, including NASA Jumpstart, student aircraft manufacturing and competitive design-build projects. A first-generation and military-affiliated student, he will serve on active duty with the U.S. Air Force after graduation before pursuing a master’s degree in aerospace engineering.  

April 29,  2026  — Payton Hamilton has taken full advantage of the travel programs Wichita State offers, including Lead for Tomorrow and Bill’s Trip through the Cohen Honors College.  

April 29,  2026  — As a recipient of both the Clay Barton and Rudd scholarships, Bella Kilman has distinguished herself on the Wichita State campus. Through the Rudd Foundation, student government and internships, she built her resume and found a family among the campus community.
