Dec. 4, 2019 -- Javier Martinez and Jonathan Lozano hadn’t even intended to earn Wichita State’s inaugural Parkinson Scholarship last year, but they did. Both first-generation college students share their stories of adversity and triumph and offer words of encouragement for future first-gen college hopefuls.

When the Navy gave Shawn Henderson the opportunity to go to college, she decided to become a Shocker and study social work and criminal justice so that she could advocate for suffering people. Now she has found another family at WSU.
