W. Frank Barton School of Business

Strategic Plan

Brief History
During the 2012-13 academic year, the Wichita State University Strategic Planning Committee developed Phase 1 of a new university plan (see here for more information). In the 2013-14, the Barton School developed a new college strategic plan part of Phase 2 of the Wichita State University strategic planning initiative. This plan was the result of deep and meaningful bottom-up development, with participation from faculty, staff, students, and external stakeholders. This plan was designed to align with the WSU strategic plan This plan was adopted and approved by the Barton School's faculty in June 2014.

2016 Strategic Plan
During the 2015-16 academic year, the University asked each college to demonstrate how the college strategic plans were aligned with the seven goals in the University Strategic plan. To better align the Barton School's strategic plan, the 2014 plan was condensed with some modifications to specifically align with each goal of the University. This revised plan was adopted and approved by the Barton School's faculty on September 22, 2016.

 2018 Revision
In 2018, the Barton School’s accrediting body, the Association to Advance Collegiate Schools of Business (AACSB), offered suggestions of how to improve the strategic plan. These suggestions involved clearly defining measurable goals and providing an action plan related to the goals. The Barton School staff and faculty adopted these suggestions, revised the strategic plan accordingly, and approved the revised plan on December 19, 2018.
