Rebecca Nordyke developed a special section of Comm 111 for non-native speakers of English in 1981 and has taught the course since then.

In addition, she has taught Nonverbal Communication, Interpersonal Communication, and Small Group-Teamwork-Leadership for the Elliott School, as well as her "second language," Signing Exact English, for the Communicative Disorders and Sciences Department. Hearing impaired students frequently enroll in her communication classes because they can speak directly to her without using an interpreter.

As Research Coordinator for the Interdisciplinary Communication Research Institute, Nordyke supervises the telephone research center where surveys have been completed for WSU professors, local Wichita interest groups, and Kansas governmental agencies. She is married to Robert Nordyke, a nationally recognized high school debate coach. They have two daughters and one son.
