SCHOLARSHIPS

The Philosophy Department at WSU has two scholarships which it awards on an annual basis.

CRAIG MACY SCHOLARSHIP

Applicants must meet these qualifying criteria to be considered for award recipient status:

  • Declared major in Philosophy
  • Completed a minimum of 9 credit hours in philosophy courses at WSU
  • Minimum departmental GPA of 3.25
  • Completed a minimum of 36 credit hours total
  • Minimum cumulative GPA of 3.0
  • Full-time undergraduate student at WSU (12 credit hours)

The award will be made without regard to financial need.

Students interested in being considered for this award should submit the following to the Chair of the Philosophy Department, Room 113, Hubbard Hall:

  • A current resume
  • A complete transcript (unofficial is acceptable)
  • A copy of a graded paper (including instructor's comments) submitted for a WSU philosophy course. Papers will not be returned.

HISTORY OF PHILOSOPHY SCHOLARSHIP

Applicants must meet these qualifying criteria to be considered for award recipient status:

  • Be a declared major in Philosophy;
  • Have a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.25;
  • Have earned a minimum of nine hours in Philosophy at Wichita State University by the end of the current spring semester;
  • Have completed six hours of work in the History of Philosophy at Wichita State University by the end of the current spring semester.*

*For the purposes of this scholarship, the following courses will count as work in the history of philosophy: 303, 305, 315, 322, 331, 350, 352, 365, 519, 546, 549, and 565. Some sections of 585 and 590 also may be considered as courses in the history of philosophy. If you have questions about any particular course, please consult with the Chair.

Students interested in being considered for this award should submit the following to the Chair of the Philosophy Department, Room 113, Hubbard Hall:

  • A statement of interest in the scholarship
  • A sample of written work, preferably a paper written for a course in the history of philosophy
