Graduate Student Support

Graduate students in Biological Sciences can be supported by two mechanisms.  Some graduate students are supported as Graduate Teaching Assistants.  These students typically work with teaching faculty and staff as laboratory instructors for ~10 h/wk.  Those positions are assigned each semester and reflect the academic strengths of the student.  Students also can be supported by their thesis mentor as Graduate Research Assistants in labroatories with appropriate funding available.  While many of our graduate students are supported, the department does not gaurantee funding.  Students on GTA or GRA support typically have their tuition and fees paid, while earning a stipend for living expenses.  Graduate students with assistantships often can take fewer credit hours and still be conisdered full-time students.  Graduate student support is especially valuable for students deeply involved in their research projects or preparing their thesis.
