Award-winning writer and broadcaster Jedd Beaudoin teaches the popular class Fine Arts 321: Art, Film, Rock Museum & Subcultures. He brings an eclectic selection of music to the radio airwaves on the nationally syndicated show Strange Currency, which airs locally on KMUW 89.1 from 8-10 p.m. Monday through Saturday. He also produces the series A Musical Life for KMUW. Beaudoin hosts Wichita Sessions on KPTS Channel 8, a show featuring performances by local and regional music acts. He has been a freelance journalist for nearly two decades, during which time he served as a music critic and editor for the alternative newspapers F5 and Wichita City Paper. He contributes reviews to Spectrum Culture, PopMatters, Keyboard magazine, Vice’s Noisey and Rock and Roll Globe. Beaudoin earned a Master’s of Fine Arts in Creative Writing from Wichita State in 2001 and holds a Bachelor of Arts in English from the University of Wisconsin-Whitewater. His areas of interest include Afrofuturism, masculinity/gender in film (and the blaxploitation genre in particular), heavy metal subcultures and experimental music.
