Wichita Area Sexual Assault Center offers a 24-hour a day crisis line. The center
additionally provides support and information to people who have been victimized by
sexual assault at any time in their lives, as an adult or a child. The center will
provide a support staff to meet and stay at the hospital with a victim of sexual assault.
The staff member will explain the process of what to expect next and answer any questions.
They also provide emotional support through ongoing counseling and support groups
and may provide legal services and court advocacy if needed, free and confidentially.
All services provided by the Wichita Area Sexual Assault Center are available for
males as well as females regardless of sexual orientation.
Via-Christi St. Joseph's Hospital SANE/SART program

SANE/SART Services are available 24-hours a day through the Via-Christi Medical Center
in Wichita.
SANE stands for Sexual Assault Nurse Examiner. A SANE is a specially trained registered
nurse who provides comprehensive care to victims of sexual assault. The role of a
SANE includes taking a history from the victim for the purpose of diagnosis and treatment
of health care concerns; conducting a complete physical assessment; performing a thorough
genital exam; collecting and documenting any forensic evidence; providing appropriate
information and referrals; working with the victim advocate and other SART members
to assure coordinated service; and providing courtroom testimony when needed.
SART stands for Sexual Assault Response Team, and it is a community based coordinated response to sexual assault. The community team includes representatives from health care providers, advocacy programs, law enforcement agencies, prosecutors’ offices as well as any other professionals that serve victims of sexual violence in the community. Ultimately, a SART should coordinate to ensure that victims of sexual assault receive appropriate services and referrals that promote the safety and dignity of victims.

Victims of sexual assault may receive transport to and from the hospital by our local
law enforcement agencies.
Shocker Safe Ride

Shocker Safe Ride is a service for all WSU students and is available from the hours
of 7pm-7am to provide transportation from the hospital if a student is a victim of
sexual assault and is in need of transportation. A WSU student Shocker ID will be
needed for transport. All information will be kept confidential.
The Kansas Crisis Hotline

Service through the Kansas Coalition Against Sexual & Domestic Violence (KCSDV).
The Kansas Crisis Hotline is a referral service to connect women of abuse with a
women’s shelter in their area. The shelters provide a warm, free of violence atmosphere
where victims are provided with support groups, counseling and assistance in rebuilding
the lives of the adults or children victims of domestic violence, rape, incest or
molestation.
