Master'sLiberal Studies

Wichita State's Master of Arts in Liberal Studies (MALS) allows you to develop a plan of study that combines coursework from more than one department to better meet your specific interests and career goals. All students complete intensive work in two or three areas of study and become familiar with interdisciplinary research theories and methods.

Applied learning at Wichita State

At Wichita State, applied learning is everything. In fact, every degree we offer has a guaranteed applied learning or research experience built right into it equipping you with the relevant skills and experience to make you workforce ready before graduation.

Admission to the program

  • Be admitted into the WSU Grad School
  • Have a minimum 3.0 GPA in the last 60 hours of coursework
  • Have an initial interview with the graduate coordinator
  • Complete a statement of purpose

Curriculum

The MALS program requires the completion of:

  • A minimum of 36 credit hours
  • No more than 12 credit hours from any one department
  • A maximum of 12 credit hours in a college other than liberal arts and sciences
  • At least 22 credit hours in courses numbered 700 or above
  • LAS 800 – Research Goals/Strategies
  • A master's thesis or terminal project
