Undergraduate Degrees

The Biology Department offers a broad and flexible curriculum leading to a B.A. and B.S. degrees, a biochemistry field major with the Department of Chemistry, a Certificate in Pre-Genetic Counseling, and an interdisplinary B.S. degree in Forensic Science.

The Master of Science program is offered under either a research thesis or non-thesis option. Research training is available in microbiology, cell, molecular, endocrine, organismal, reproductive, and environmental biology.

Graduate Research Spotlight: Ocean Spray to Tooth Decay

Professor David McDonald and graduate assistant Alisha Prince are trying to change the world, one mouth at a time. The team is collaborating with Ocean Spray to research synergistic properties contained in cranberries and other natural extracts that will, in theory, stop the decay of teeth and provide an alternative to traditional oral health care.

Dr. Mary Liz Jameson is an esteemed faculty member of biological sciences. All her students, who have either taken her classes or have done research under her have amazing things to share about her.

New Pre-Genetic Counseling Certificate

Biological Sciences is offering a new certificate to prepare students for careers as Genetic Counselors. Students completing the certificate will have the pre-requisite courses expected by MS programs in Genetic Counseling.

New Courses in Biological Sciences

Biological Sciences is offering new courses this year. Dr. Raj Logan is offering BIOL 645 Discoveries in Developmental Biology and BIOL 545 Human Embryology. Dr. David McDonald is offering a majors version of BIOL 407 Foundation of Human Heredity. James Crisler is offering the new nonmajors course BIOL 162 Fundamentals of Hemp and Cannabis. A new team-taught course, BIOL 101 ExPLORe-BIO, is an introduction to studies and careers in Biology.
