Events, Food and Fun!

Join Shocker Nation for three days of events, food and fun for the whole community—Oct. 4-6. 

Test your skill in our Cornhole tournament at Sip & See on Friday. Cheer on Shocker Athletics with a basketball scrimmage or softball game on Saturday. Take in some art at the Ulrich Museum on Sunday. Check back regularly, events added often!

FRIDAY, OCT. 4, 2019

11 a.m.-5 p.m. —  Ulrich Museum Fall Exhibitions
Location: Ulrich Museum of Art | Cost: Free
Explore and enjoy 20th- and 21st-century art with exhibitions that feature emerging and established artists, works from our permanent collection and traveling exhibitions.

8 a.m.-9 p.m. —  Pizza Hut Museum 
Location: Pizza Hut Museum | Cost: Free
Take a walk through the history of Pizza Hut—in the original building—from its founding by WSU students, Dan and Frank Carney, to its growth into one of the world's largest pizza chains.

12-2 p.m. — Chili Cook-off
Location: Rhatigan Student Center patio | Cost: $5
$5 all-you-can-eat chili cook-off, presented by the Student Veteran Organization.

5-5:45 p.m. —  Sip and See: Innovation Campus Tour
Location: Experiential Engineering/John Bardo Center | Cost: Free
"Sip and See" around the John Bardo Center, take a tour of the building.

5:30-7:30 p.m. — Sip and See: Trivia Contest
Location: Experiential Engineering/John Bardo Center | Cost: Free
Participate in our trivia contest with local trivia host Tyler Cowley. Preregistration is required.

Location: Experiential Engineering/John Bardo Center  | Cost: Free (Sponsored by Campus Activities and Recreation)
Test your skill in our 32-team (two players per team) single elimination (best of three games for all matches) Cornhole tournament during our “Sip and See” event at John Bardo Center. Prizes for the top three teams. Preregistration is required.

Location: Experiential Engineering/John Bardo Center  | Cost: Varies
Grab a bite of delicious, local food truck fare—and a glass of wine—during our “Sip and See” event at John Bardo Center. Trucks at the event include: B.S. Sandwich Press, LoLo's Crepes, Brown Box Bakery and Grace Hill Winery.

5:30-7:30 p.m. — Sip and See: Alumni Association Raffle Entry

Try your luck at a raffle hosted by the Alumni Association. Registration required.

6-7 p.m. —  John Bardo Center Dedication @ Sip and See
Location: Experiential Engineering/John Bardo Center | Cost: Free
The Experiential Engineering Building will be rededicated as The John Bardo Center. Take a tour of the building before the program begins at 6 p.m. 

6:15-7 p.m. — Sip and See: Innovation Campus Tour

6-9 p.m. —  First Friday: ShiftSpace Gallery 
Location: Groover Labs | Cost: Free
After six years in the Commerce Street Arts District, the student-run ShiftSpace gallery is moving to Groover Labs, 344 N. St. Francis, in Wichita’s Old Town district. See the gallery’s new visual identity, conceived by graphic design student and ShiftSpace Student Group member Nicklaus Lawrence, a photo series documenting the construction of Groover Labs by WSU Photography Guild members, Choreography III and Foundation 3D Design students dance in response to the poetry of WSU alumna April Pameticky, and an art parade of wearable sculpture pieces created by Foundation 3D Design students.

Two sisters and a dog live out their lives on the bleak English moors, dreaming of love and power. The arrival of a hapless governess and a moor-hen set all three on a strange and dangerous path. The Moors is a dark comedy about love, desperation, and visibility. Written by: Jen Silverman (Rating PG13+)

Location: Aetna Multi-Purpose Gym (Koch Arena) | Cost: Free
Wichita State hosts its annual athletic department garage sale at the Aetna Multi-Purpose Gym inside Charles Koch Arena. Shocker fans can purchase old jerseys and uniforms, plus assorted apparel, bags and other equipment. Items for sale are available on a first-come, first-served basis.

Location: Marcus Welcome Center | Cost: Free
Do you have Shocker Nation's fastest baby? Bring your family and join the fun at this year's Future Shocker Baby Crawl, hosted by the Office of Admissions! Bring your keys, bells, whistles or anything else that will get baby to cross that finish line. Pre-registration is preferred, but families are welcome to register at the event.

10 a.m.-2 p.m. — Chalk It Up! Outdoor Community Art
Location: McKnight Art Center | Cost: Free
The art education program in the School of Art, Design and Creative Industries invites you to pick up a piece of chalk and make your mark on the WSU campus.

11 a.m.-1 p.m. — Empty Bowls Chili Cook-off
Location: John Bardo Center | Cost: $25 for chili ($10 for students), and participants will make their own ceramic, glazed bowls.
Learn how to make a one-of-a-kind ceramic bowl with the WSU Ceramics Guild as they demonstrate wheel throwing and hand-building techniques. The bowl you make (or glaze) will be donated to the Empty Bowls Chili Cook-off fundraiser. There will also be an improvisational dance!

WSU students and alumni with faculty member Cheyla Chandler will perform improvisational dance throughout the Empty Bowls event at John Bardo Center from 11:30-12:30 pm.

1-4:30 p.m —  Sail Boats at Braeburn Square 
Meeting Location: Braeburn Square Pond | Cost: Free
Sail boats with Air Capital Model Sailing Club. The club expects to have 8-12 "Dragon Force 65" boats in the water and will conduct several 15 to 30-minute races depending on the wind.

12-5 p.m. — WSU Sculpture Guild Iron Pour
Location: Henrion Hall Foundry | Cost: Free
Join the WSU Sculpture Guild as they pour molten metal! From 12–2 p.m., you may carve a sand block to be used in the pour, then take your sculpture home. The iron will begin to flow around 2:30 p.m. Note: The guild will have a limited number of sand blocks, and it takes time to pour them all. You may pick up your completed block at a later date if you choose.

1 p.m. — Softball: WSU vs Crowder
Location: Wilkins Stadium | Cost: Free for WSU students and up to two family guests; $5 at the gate general public

1-1:30 p.m. — Ann Walenta String Quartet Performance

1-2 p.m. —  First-Year Research Experience (FYRE) Scholars Poster Gallery Cohen Honors College in Shocker Hall
Location: Cohen Honors CollegeCost: Free
The expanded Dorothy and Bill Cohen Honors College space in Shocker Hall will be open to walk-in visitors with a showcase of research posters created by the scholars selected for the spring 2019 FYRE program, a first-year research program open to any first-year STEM student, coordinated by Dr. Moriah Beck. Talk with the college dean and academic advisor about FYRE, undergraduate research, and what’s happening in Honors.
