Denis H. Dieker Scholarship
Denis Dieker grew up in Severy, Kansas, and graduated from North Elk High School in Howard, Kansas. He attended Wichita State, originally majoring in mathematics but eventually graduating with bachelor's and master's degrees in business administration. During college, he received the Carl R. Krueger Memorial Scholarship and worked 30 hours or more a week to finance his education. As a member of Sigma Phi Epsilon, he held several offices, including membership development, vice president and president. He lived in the fraternity hours for three years. Denis credits SigEp with keeping him in college during difficult times and helping him lead a successful life.
Denis started his career in banking in Wichita and St. Louis, Mo. After 10 years in banking, he became the chief financial officer of Midwest Drywall, working in this position for 30 years to help it grow from a small construction business to a large regional specialty contractor. He married Shirley in 1983 and they have two children, Joseph and Margaret. Denis endowed this scholarship to help financially challenged WSU students pursue their education. Awards are made to students who are members of Sigma Phi Epsilon. They are encouraged to live in the fraternity house and contribute to the organization.
