Dr. Sam Cohlmia Outstanding Greek Man and Woman Scholarship

Dr. Sam Cohlmia, eye surgeon, culinary chef and native Wichitan, earned a degree in chemistry from Wichita State University in 1989. He later graduated from the University of Kansas School of Medicine and completed residency in ophthalmology at the University of Colorado in Denver. For a short while, he practiced ophthalmology in Beirut, Lebanon, and then established the Cohlmia Eye Center in 1997.

Dr. Cohlmia is American Board certified in ophthalmology and a member of the American Academy of Ophthalmology, the American Medical Association and the American Society of Cataract and Refractive Surgeons. He is active in the community and maintains many ties with the university. He stays involved with his fraternity, Sigma Alpha Epsilon, was a contributor to the Marcus Welcome Center building project and has served a number of years on the Alumni Association board of directors. He also has donated his culinary expertise at many fund-raising events including the Shocker Auction. To further the tradition of Greek involvement, in 1999, Dr. Cohlmia created this scholarship for one male and one female student. He was presented the Young Alumnus Award in 2003.
