Gene J. and Marie A. Miles Endowed Scholarship/Fellowship in Nursing
Gene Miles grew up in the Norwich-Milton, Kan., area and served in the U.S. Army during World War II. After which, he became a custom homebuilder and he and his wife, Marie, of Garden Plain, Kan., eventually entered the long-term care business. Together, Mr. and Mrs. Miles built, owned and operated four nursing homes in Wichita until Mr. Miles passed away in 2002. Following his passing, Mrs. Miles sold their nursing homes. The last of which, Sandpiper Bay Health and Retirement Center and Waterfront Assisted Living, sold in 2006. Using partial proceeds from the sale, Mrs. Miles established the Gene J. and Marie A. Miles Current Scholarship/Fellowship in Nursing. Mrs. Miles' considerate donation celebrates the memory of her husband while helping students who possess a passion for nursing.
