Overview

Quang Nguyen is an assistant director for the Office of Diversity and Inclusion at Wichita State University. He graduated from Wichita State University with a Master's degree in Business Administration and a Bachelor's degree in Business Administration and Marketing.

Quang started his marketing career with the University, where he assisted in the development and improvement of the office's image and brand. He has the unique opportunity to serve as both the business manager and specialist that provides marketing services to the University and its partnerships. He is assigned to the marketing and communications committee on the President's Diversity Council to assess and address the University's multifaceted, complex needs. Quang is committed to working with diverse populations, to provide a positive collegiate experience for all Shockers. Therefore, he serves as an advisor for various student organizations, such as Ambassadors for Diversity and Inclusion, KVersity and Men of Excellence.

Outside of Wichita State University, Quang is involved with his fraternity, Alpha Phi Alpha, to move the mission of developing leaders, promoting brotherhood and academic excellence, while providing service and advocacy for our communities. He is also involved as a freelance graphic designer and wants to continue to grow professionally and build alliances within the community, by joining W - A Community of Young Professionals.

Additionally, he loves getting to know his students and enjoys spending time with his three puppies, Aki, Haru and Tobi.

Favorite Place on Campus

Honestly, I really enjoy my office in the Office of Diversity and Inclusion. This is a place where you can connect with all students from different backgrounds and enjoy the energy while doing work! Also, many have agreed that my office has the best view of the campus, especially when program and events are taking place outside!

Advice for Future Shockers

Take advantages of all the opportunities given to you. Everyone at Wichita State University is here for you and it is important to push yourself to lean into discomfort! Get to know your professors and find a mentor; they will be the ones who drive the path of your college journey. Also, take time to meet new people - this is a chance for you to define or refine who you are!

  • Responsible for developing and implementing marketing and social media strategies, conducting marketing research, promotion development and other tasks.
  • Collaborated with 35-40 different organizations and departments each year to create hundreds of marketing pieces
  • Redeveloped the office's brand identity in 2014 by utilizing Wichita State University's visual standards
  • Redesigned department website and collaboration with other departments to design their websites
  • Renamed and rebranded the Multicultural Student Mentoring Program to Promoting Academic Student Success (PASS) to be more inclusive to students at Wichita State University

Advanced Administrative Support

  • Serves as the business manager for the office by handling finances, budgeting, employment supervision and more
  • Prepared and revamped office policies and procedures that significantly improves workplace productivity and learning
  • Streamlined and automated processes for financial payments, resulting in significant time savings

Project Coordination/Management

  • Appointed to the President's Diversity Council in 2016 and served as the marketing and communications chair for two years to assess and address the University's multifaceted, complex needs
  • Assigned to the marketing committee for the First-Generation Coordinating Council to develop marketing materials on a University-wide level for first-generation college students
  • Served as a member of the marketing commitee since 2016 to host the annual Ad Astra for First-Generation College Students, bringing 150-200 students from the Kansas Board of Regents institutions
