Celebrating the Scientific Legacy of NASA and Apollo: Middle School Poster Contest Guidelines
In celebration of the 50th Anniversary of the Apollo 11 lunar landing, as well as the 61st Anniversary of NASA, Wichita State University and the Wichita Space Initiative are pleased to announce a poster competition open to Kansas high school students (grades 6-8).
Ten finalists will be invited to present their posters at a symposium taking place on Saturday, October 19, 2019, at Wichita State University. Prizes of $250, $150, and $100 will be awarded to the top three contestants. Prizes are funded by a grant from the NASA Kansas Space Grant Consortium.
Instructions:
Your poster should provide your answer to the question: "What is the most important NASA spinoff?" It should describe the spinoff itself, how it was developed and/or used by NASA, and how it has benefited society. Visit https://spinoff.nasa.gov/ for NASA's spinoff database.
Submission Guidelines:
Students desiring to enter the contest must submit the following information through the submission portal located at: http://bit.ly/WSU-NASA-MS
- Your name, school, grade level, and contact information.
- Your poster title.
- A one-paragraph description of the poster you intend to make. Requirements and instructions for poster construction, formatting, etc., will be provided to the ten finalists upon notice of acceptance. For the initial submission you do not need to create a poster - you only need to describe the poster you would like to make should you be accepted as a finalist.
Deadline for initial submission: Monday, September 9th, 2019
Finalists notified: Monday, September 16th, 2019
Ten finalists will be invited to present their posters during the conference "Celebrating the Scientific Legacy of NASA and Apollo,'' which features a keynote address delivered by Dr. Roger Launius, NASA Chief Historian from 1990 to 2002.
Presentations will be limited to 5 minutes each, and will be judged by WSU faculty based on: depth of content, content organization, verbal interaction, as well as overall design. The top three finalists will be announced at the conference.
