Responsibilities of the Deaf and Hard-of-Hearing Student

Each Semester
Meet with the Assistant Director to complete an intake interview so that appropriate services can be established. Provide ODS with the class schedule as soon as registration is completed to allow sufficient time for scheduling all necessary services. Report any changes in the class schedule to the Assistant Director as soon as possible so that adjustments can be made in regard to the scheduling of services.

Absences and Tardiness
If a student using communication access services knows he/she will miss a class, the student needs to notify ODS 24 hours before the class begins so the communication specialists may be informed and possibly reassigned. If the student misses three consecutive classes without notifying ODS, the access services will be suspended until the student meets with the Assistant Director to discuss the situation. The student should also inform ODS when he/she will be arriving late so the communication specialists can be informed. In the event ODS is not notified, the communication specialist will wait ten minutes for each hour of class. If the student arrives late to the same class three consecutive times and has not notified ODS or the communication specialist, services will be suspended until a meeting is held with the Assistant Director.

Communication Access Services Outside of the Classroom
In the event that communication access services are needed to fulfill class requirements outside of the classroom, requests need to be made at least three school days in advance. Attempts will be made to honor requests made with shorter notice with the understanding that the service may not be available.

Notetaking Services for Deaf and Hard-of-Hearing Students
