Is the University paying a bonus to employees?

Yes. The University is paying a $500 discretionary bonus to eligible employees as a way of expressing appreciation for all our employees do to support and grow the University’s mission and goals.

Who is eligible for the bonus?

All benefit eligible employees who are employed as of October 17, 2021.

Will all employees receive the bonus?

No, non-benefit eligible employees, including temps, lecturers and student employees are not eligible for the bonus.  In addition, members of the President Executive Team will not receive the bonus.

Will employees assigned to a grant receive the bonus?

Yes, however, Wichita State Reserve Funds will be utilized to fund the bonus, not funds from the grant.

How will taxes be withheld from the bonus?

Taxes will be withheld at the IRS supplemental tax rate, as required.

When will the bonus be paid to employees?

The bonus will be paid on the paycheck dated November 12, 2021.

On your pay stub, the bonus will be displayed with the “bonus” earn code in the Earnings section.

Is the University providing two personal paid leave days?

Yes, two additional days of paid leave are being provided to eligible employees and may be used by employees during the Holiday Shutdown period.

What are the dates that the University is closed for the Holiday Shutdown?

The University is officially closed from 5:00 pm on Friday, December 17, 2021 to 8:00 am on Monday, January 3, 2022.

Who is eligible for the two personal paid leave days?

All benefit eligible employees who are employed as of December 12, 2021 are eligible for the two additional paid days.

What are the official designated holidays for which employees will be paid during the Holiday Shutdown?

There are two officially designated holidays that are paid during the Holiday Shutdown which are Christmas Day and New Year’s Day. Both holidays occur on a Saturday this year so the observed paid holidays are Friday, December 24, 2021 and Friday, December 31, 2021.

Are there any stipulations on whether eligible employees receive holiday pay?

An employee who is eligible for holiday pay must be in full pay status the entire workday before and the entire workday after the holiday to receive holiday pay.  Pay status is defined as being paid either accrued leave or regular earnings for the employee’s typical workday.
