Kimberly Moore
Workforce, Professional and Community Education
Kim Moore came to Wichita State University in 1996 when I hired her as a conference coordinator in the Division of Continuing Education. In this role, Kim quickly demonstrated her exceptional ability to plan, synchronize, and implement complex projects for both internal and external constituents of the University—on campus and across the state. Her responsibilities included developing budgets, marketing plans, on-site logistics, coordinating with committees, ensuring professional continuing education requirements were met, and supervising staff.
From the beginning, I appreciated the skills Kim brought to our hard-working team. Her work ethic, productivity, and professionalism made her a standout. Many groups she worked with over the years felt the same. We experienced many changes, opportunities, and challenges together, and Kim always thrived—especially when faced with a challenge.
Former staff members have shared glowing feedback about Kim: “The professionalism and expertise she brings to her work have made a lasting impression on me,” “She taught me a lot,” “She was very supportive when I was trying to finish my degree,” “Kim was always willing to step in and help no matter what the task,” and “If there was an issue, I knew I could talk to Kim and it would be handled or at least heard.” One memorable reflection shared was: “Anyone can thrive when everything is going well, but I wouldn’t know how good Kim was until challenges started to arise.”
The Division of Continuing Education—now known as Workforce, Professional and Community Education—has long been responsible for Non-Credit Community Education classes, the Hughes Metropolitan Complex, Commencement, the Conference Office, and for-credit Lifelong Learning programs for seniors statewide. Each year, they serve thousands of people locally, across Kansas, and even nationally.
During the COVID-19 pandemic, Kim and her team innovatively adapted by taking Commencement online and developing platforms to host national conferences virtually. Kim also began speaking at more professional conferences on innovation in continuing education. Her leadership, creativity, and adaptability have helped the division evolve and continue to meet the changing needs of learners and the community.
Today, Kim serves as the Executive Director of Workforce, Professional & Community Education. Her leadership, hard work, dedication, and service are truly deserving of recognition. Her willingness to step up, contribute, and give credit to her team for their efforts and leadership is valued by so many people inside and outside the university.
I am proud to have Kim as a colleague and greatly appreciate the way she represents Wichita State University with excellence and integrity.
