Dr. Scott Wituk
Community Engagement Institute
Dr. Scott Wituk is a three-time graduate of Wichita State University, earning his Bachelor’s degree in 1996, Master’s in 1999, and Doctorate in Psychology in 2001, proudly representing Shocker Nation throughout his academic and professional journey.
For the past 25 years, Scott has played an instrumental role in growing the WSU Community Engagement Institute (CEI), while also advancing the university’s mission through dedicated service to Kansans near and far. As Executive Director of CEI, he oversees all activities, services, and operations, managing an $8 million annual budget and a talented team of 85 full- and part-time staff members.
Scott’s career began as a research assistant at the Stanford University School of Medicine, followed by a brief position at the University of North Carolina. In 1996, he brought his skills and passion back to Wichita State, where he joined CEI—then under a different name and location. In 2009, he was appointed Executive Director and has since guided the Institute to impactful growth. Under his leadership, CEI has brought millions of research dollars to the university and made a meaningful difference in the lives of Kansans from all backgrounds.
I have had the pleasure of working closely with Scott over the last few years and witnessing firsthand his unwavering commitment to excellence. His work is deeply rooted in community psychology, organizational capacity building, and applied research and evaluation. He collaborates with nonprofits, community coalitions, health departments, mental health organizations, government agencies, and support groups—always inspiring his team and clients alike with his passion and vision.
Scott is a passionate advocate for his team, an innovative steward of resources, and constantly responsive to community needs. He is always searching for the next partnership opportunity or unmet need to address. Whether CEI is engaged in local urban initiatives or projects in rural Kansas, Scott and his team consistently represent the best of what an urban research university can offer. We are truly fortunate to have had him at Wichita State for 25 years—and even more fortunate to continue benefiting from his leadership, consistency, and wisdom.
Congratulations, Scott. We thank you for your incredible service and example. Welcome to the Bender of Twigs!
