Gamal Weheba
Professor and ASQ Fellow
Industrial, Systems, and Manufacturing Engineering
Dr. Weheba joined our university in 2000, bringing with him a wealth of knowledge, a global perspective, and a deep commitment to excellence. Originally from Egypt, he earned his Ph.D. in Industrial Engineering from the University of Central Florida, and has since become a cornerstone of our College of Engineering. He has been a driving force in engineering education, research, student mentoring, and faculty advocacy at Wichita State University.
Over the years, Dr. Weheba has distinguished himself as a Fellow of the American Society for Quality, contributing to foundational texts like the Certified Quality Engineer Handbook and co-authoring the widely used Manufacturing Processes & Materials textbook. His research in quality systems, additive manufacturing, and statistical process control has not only advanced academic knowledge but also shaped industry practices.
Dr. Weheba has also played a vital role in organizing the Industry, Engineering & Management Systems Conference (IEMS), serving as Conference Chair and fostering collaboration across disciplines and borders. His editorial contributions to the Journal of Management and Engineering Integration (JMEI) have provided a platform for emerging voices and innovative research. His work has helped elevate the journal’s reputation and provided a platform for student-led research.
Beyond his scholarship, Dr. Weheba has been a tireless advocate for faculty and students. As President of the AAUP-AFT chapter, he has stood up for academic freedom and student rights.
His greatest legacy lies in the lives he has touched. Students recall how he stayed after class to help with projects, how he turned nervous students into confident researchers, and how his office, filled with books, prototypes, and ideas, became a hub of inspiration.
Dr. Weheba’s industry collaborations include work with Spirit AeroSystems, international universities, and construction firms, bridging academic research with real-world impact.
Dr. Weheba, on behalf of Wichita State University, your colleagues, your students, and the entire academic community, we thank you.
Congratulations on 25 years of excellence!
