It's both an honor and a privilege to recognize someone whose impact on Wichita State University spans, not just years, but generations of faculty, staff, and students. This year, we celebrate Michelle Barger and her more than 26 years of distinguished service to this institution.
Working for any organization for more than a quarter-century is no small feat. Michelle's tenure at WSU has seen four university presidents, countless new students, dozens of new programs, and the explosive growth of buildings on the Innovation Campus. She's a leader, a mentor to many, a source of wisdom, and quite often, the person who quietly gets things done behind the scenes to keep everything running smoothly. Over these 26 years, Michelle has been more than just a colleague. She's also been a great friend to me and so many others across the campus.
Whether navigating enrollment challenges, budget cuts, implementing new software, or training new team members, Michelle has consistently embodied what it means to serve with heart and soul. It's not just about what she does but how she does it that makes her so special. She has one of the strongest work ethics of anyone I've ever met. She works days, nights, weekends, vacations, and holidays. Michelle believes in the mission of Wichita State University and is truly committed to making WSU one of the best places to work and study. With Michelle, her service doesn't get a holiday.
In her 26 years at Wichita State, Michelle has worked in Undergraduate Admissions, the Registrar's Office, and the Office of International Education – shaping each of those offices with her unique contributions. She has inspired, mentored, counseled, contributed, and touched the lives of many. Over the years, she has built a culture of excellence for which I am incredibly grateful. To me, Michelle isn't just a Bender of Twigs. She's a Mover of Mountains.
