Bender of Twigs Banner Travis Feeney

Travis Feeney

Executive Director, TRIO Educational Opportunity Centers

College Readiness/Retention Programs

When I first learned that I had been chosen to share comments in honor of Travis Feeney, I felt deeply honored and genuinely excited. It is a gratifying moment to celebrate someone who so perfectly embodies what it means to be a “Bender of Twigs.”

Just as faculty and staff help guide students in their pursuit of knowledge, Travis exemplifies that spirit.

I first met Travis in 1999, and little did I know the remarkable journey that lay ahead with him as both a colleague and a friend. The personal memories of his personal and professional growth are deeply etched in my mind—from celebrating his and Christina’s wedding, to walking with him through the passing of his father, to hearing the joyful stories of his mother’s missionary travels and watching his unwavering devotion to his family. Even to this day, when his mother, Ms. Sue Feeney, calls him or needs something, Travis answers, and he does it. That simple truth says everything about his character: loyal, compassionate, and grounded in love and service.

Walking with Travis on his professional journey has been the best live movie ever, filled with growth, inspiration, laughter, and moments that could only be scripted by life itself. Over the years, Travis has transformed from a quiet, hardworking professional into a beacon for education and a shining example that education truly is the passport to success. His career began as a student assistant with TRIO Upward Bound Wichita Prep (UBWP) in 1992. Since then, he has remained steadfast in his mission to champion first-generation and low-income students.

Travis earned his Bachelor’s in Business Administration and, most recently, his Master’s in Public Administration, both from Wichita State University. In June 2024, after completing his master’s degree, he transitioned from UBWP to become the Executive Director for TRIO Educational Opportunity Centers (EOC), where he now empowers adult learners to pursue their educational dreams. Under his leadership, EOC has become a trusted name in the community—connecting people and organizations with Wichita State University in ways that truly embody Shocker Pride.

Travis is no longer the quiet one. Though he still moves with calm precision, his actions, energy, and vision speak volumes. He is strategic, analytical, and deeply impactful.

Congratulations, Travis, on 25 years of extraordinary service, unwavering dedication, and the countless lives you have helped shape.
