SAFETY ALERT
Aggravated Robbery February 16, 2018
The Wichita Police Department has responded to an Aggravated Robbery in the evening hours of 2/16/2018. The incident occurred on the NW corner of 21st and Oliver. A WSU student was walking eastbound on the north side of the road when he was approached by an individual wearing a black hoodie who produced a knife and demanded the student’s cell phone and backpack. This incident is currently under investigation by the Wichita Police Department.

Height/Weight: Thin build
Clothing: Black hoodie
Vehicle: None
Weapon: Knife, approximately 8-10” in length

SAFETY REMINDER

The Wichita Police Department responded to an auto theft on February 13, 2018. The incident occurred at 213 N. Mead, where Wichita State and Wichita Area Technical College (WSU Tech) share the building.
There is no suspect description. An instructor for WSU had her car stolen from the parking lot at that location. This occurred sometime between 7:00 p.m. and 7:45 p.m. on the evening of Tuesday, February 13, 2018. The vehicle is described as a 2014 dark gray 4-door Ford Focus, bearing Kansas tag 777-HAM. The vehicle was locked at the time of the theft. The owner’s wallet was left in the vehicle, hidden under the driver’s seat.

Safety reminder – leaving a wallet or purse containing credit cards, driver’s license and related documents may increase your chances of becoming the victim of fraud and identity theft. In addition, your address is found on your driver’s license, thereby opening you up as a target to a future burglary.

SAFETY REMINDER

The Wichita Police Department responded to the report of a suspicious character/stalking call on Feb. 7, 2018, regarding two incidents that occurred on February 5 and 6. Both incidents occurred at 238 N. Mead in Old Town – the location of the WSU in the Community Engagement Institute. Both occurred in the late afternoon/early evening as an employee of WSU was leaving the institute. Over two nights, she observed what she believed to be the same car parked across the street from her location. Both times, the vehicle appeared to follow her when she left. While no specific crime has occurred, there was a concern over the apparent repetition of the incident.

The description of the suspect is:
Sex: Male
Age: late 20s to early 30s
Race: white
Height/Weight: approximately 6’, unknown weight (sitting in a car)
Clothing: unknown, although the person is described as having chestnut brown hair and a beard.
Vehicle: 2 door, dark blue Toyota or Honda, with a missing emblem. Dark tinted windows and an unknown Kansas tag.

On 4/13/2017, the University Police Department was contacted by another law enforcement agency in reference to a possible sexual assault on our campus on 4/12/2017.

UPD responded to the information provided and met with a female, not associated with the university, who advised she was attending a KFDI concert at Koch Arena. At one point, she returned to her vehicle parked in a lot by the 1970 football memorial. She said she was approached by two unknown males who pushed her to the ground near the memorial and sexually assaulted her.

The alleged victim and her male companion were interviewed by University Police around 9:00 pm on 4/12/2017, after a passerby reported an altercation. They both told police they were a couple just having an argument and nothing was wrong. Officers saw no sign of injury to either person. The alleged assault, according to a friend, had occurred prior to the police contact at 9:00 pm. The incident was reported to Haysville Police this morning by a friend of the female.

Under normal circumstances, this notice would have been issued sooner, unfortunately, there were delays in this case because the crime report came through a third party and University Police had to locate and interview the out-of-state resident, who was the reported victim.

UPD is sharing these descriptions of the two alleged suspects in hopes that someone may have additional information and come forward.

This reported crime happened near a busy parking lot. Although crimes like this happen most often in secluded areas away from witnesses, this is a reminder that crime can occur at any place and at any time. Walking in groups, carrying electronic devices hidden in book bags or underneath outer clothing, and remaining alert and observant of your immediate environment may reduce risk of being victimized by an offender.

At approximately 8:30 p.m., Thursday, March 16, 2017, two unknown males approached a 23-year old WSU student, as he was leaving the McDonald’s at 17th and Hillside.

The suspects demanded the student's wallet and phone. Suspect 1 displayed an unknown type of handgun. Suspect 2 had what may be a taser or stun gun. During the altercation, the student received minor injuries from being struck in the face and also possibly from a stun gun or taser. The suspects took the student's wallet, cell phone and food. They were last seen running south, then west from the McDonalds parking lot.

The student’s property has not been recovered.

Officers from the University Police Department responded to the incident call along with Wichita Police Department officers. At this hour, officers from both departments are continuing to investigate.
