Fraternity and Sorority Life

Community Engagement

Philanthropy and service are two of the cornerstones of fraternity and sorority membership.  Each organization has causes that they support; whether local or national.

Philanthropy

Philanthropy is defined as the desire to promote the welfare of others.  We see this in the philanthropic organizations that our chapters support.  A chapter can have a national or local philanthropy, and most have both!  It is more than just an organization that we write a check to.  These are organizations and causes that are deeply rooted in our membership and that are close to our hearts.  Our organizations host a variety of events to promote and raise money for their philanthropies, including food fundraisers, sports competitions and fundraising campaigns.  Some examples of our philanthropic partners are as follows:

National
  • Alzheimer's Association
  • Be The Match
  • Big Brothers Big Sisters
  • Children's Miracle Network
  • Girls on the Run
  • St. Jude Children's Research Hospital
Local
  • Boys and Girls Club of Central Kansas
  • Heather's Camp
  • ICT S.O.S
  • Wichita Area Sexual Assault Center (WASAC)

Service

Our community defines service as donating our time and effort to benefitting our greater community.  Our members can frequently be seen participating in events on campus and in the surrounding community.  Examples include:

  • Participating in Wu's Big Event each semester
  • Signing up students and community members to become registered voters
  • Cleaning up a community park
  • Participating in a walk/run to raise awareness for a cause
