Ulrich and Tallgrass Film Festival bring free screenings to WSU campus
The screenings begin with "Ai Weiwei: Never Sorry," the inside story of China's most famous international artist, a dissident for the digital age who inspires global audiences and blurs the boundaries of art and politics.
At 4 p.m. is a screening of "Booker's Place: A Mississippi Story," a film about Booker Wright, an African-American restaurant owner who also served double-duty as a waiter in a 'whites-only' restaurant in Mississippi in the 1960s. Booker becomes an unlikely activist for the Civil Rights movement.
A panel discussion on both films begins at 5:30 p.m. in the CAC Theater. The panel, moderated by Carla Eckels, news producer and host on KMUW Wichita Public Radio, includes Yvette Johnson, co-producer of "Booker's Place: A Mississippi Story;" Stefan Immler, director and executive producer of "Oxygen for the Ears: Living Jazz;" and Robert Weems Jr., Willard W. Garvey Distinguished Professor of Business History at Wichita State.
Admission to the film screening and reception is free for Ulrich Museum members and WSU students/faculty/staff (w/ID) and seniors (65 and older). General admission tickets, which include admission to the reception, are $10 and may be purchased at the door or online at http://www.tallgrassfilmfest.com/box_office/box_office.
