* Encourage your best undergraduate students to apply to present their research to legislators in the Capitol Rotunda in Topeka on Wednesday, Feb. 20. The deadline for applications is Jan. 23, but earlier submissions will be given priority consideration. Student expenses will be paid by WSU, including the cost of printing the poster, transportation to and from the event, and lunch at the event.

* President Bardo announced in his inaugural address that $50,000 would be made available for undergraduate research projects to enhance the student learning experience and increase the overall quality of our academic programming. Academic Affairs is ready to accept applications from undergraduate students who want to pursue a research experience, which can be broadly defined, with a faculty mentor. Please encourage students to apply.

* Look for Campus Recreation's interim Shocker Fitness schedule with many great class offerings. From Monday, Jan. 7-Thursday, Jan. 24, come sample and experience a variety of Shocker Fitness classes for free.

* Lake Afton Public Observatory presents "Life Story of a Star." During this program, visitors will use the observatory's 16-inch telescope to take a look at objects in the night sky that are representative of the various stages in a star's life cycle.
