* The sales tax rate in Sedgwick County decreased from 7.3 percent to 7.15 percent, effective July 1. For those interested in sales tax matters at WSU, the Office of Internal Audit has prepared a sales tax primer, Sales Tax Fundamentals.

* Please join the Media Resources Center in saying farewell and thanking Lois Nicholas for her years of dedicated service to WSU. A reception will be held in her honor from 2-3:30 p.m. Friday, July 19, in the Media Resources Center FLS-35. Refreshments will be served.

* Faculty, staff and administrators are invited to share best practice sessions/workshops in the annual Institute for Student Learning Assessment Nov. 12 at Kansas State University. The deadline to submit a proposal is Sept. 15. The institute will focus on best of assessment for academic areas, student life units, program coordinators and university level issues.

* The National Institute of Neurological Disorders and Stroke has released a funding opportunity announcement PAR-13-256 due Jan. 25, 2014. WSU is only allowed to submit one application in response to this funding announcement. Faculty interested in preparing a proposal must notify the Office of Research and Technology Transfer at proposals@wichita.edu no later than 5 p.m. Friday, Aug. 2, of their intent to submit a proposal. Review the agency's guidelines carefully.

* Federal wage-and-hour lawsuits hit a record high between April 2012 and March 2013. Sign up for Human Resources Wage and Hour training class to make sure you do all you can to limit your liability as a supervisor. * Adjunct instructors who are teaching online or hybrid courses this fall are invited to attend one of four "Early Bird Blackboard Help" sessions offered by the Media Resources Center this summer.
