* Wichita State University's Office of the President is hosting a farewell reception for Ravi Pendse from 2:30-4:30 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 8, in the Marcus Welcome Center. Pendse, Wichita State's vice president for information and chief information officer, has been named vice president for computing and information services at Brown University and will begin duties on Sept. 1. * The McNair Scholars Program 18th Annual Closing Symposium is being held from 8 a.m.-3 p.m. today (Friday, Aug. 2) at the Hughes Metropolitan Complex. This event recognizes students for their research efforts.

* The wRECk Center in the RSC will close for good at the end of the day today (Friday, Aug. 2) in preparation for the opening of Shocker Sports Grill and Lanes in September. The wRECk Center opened as a temporary operating unit last July in an effort to continue to give the Wichita State campus community a fun place to hang out during construction.

* The Wichita Business Journal has honored its annual 40 Under 40 winners, and Wichita State was well represented. WSU winners were Angela Buzard, Center for Urban Studies, Hugo Wall School; Amy DeVault, Elliott School of Communication; Natalie Grant, School of Social Work; and Teresa Veazey, formerly with the Ulrich Museum of Art.
