New online HazCom training offered

Exposure to hazardous chemicals is one of the most serious threats facing American workers today, according to U.S. Secretary of Labor Hilda Solis. A new online HazCom training is available to everyone at WSU, but faculty, staff and students who work with and around chemicals are especially encouraged to take advantage of this training opportunity. The training is mandatory for employees who work with hazardous chemicals, including employees in the physical plant, chemistry and biology departments and any other locations in which employees come into contact with any type of chemical compound.

This training, available through the Office of Environmental Health and Safety, has been updated to include a global standard of labeling that provides a coherent approach to communicating hazard information on labels and safety data sheets.

OSHA has adopted the United Nations' Globally Harmonized System and made minor changes to both labels and data sheets. In accordance, OSHA has set a deadline that the new HazCom training must be completed by Dec. 1. This training will familiarize you with the new HazCom label elements and Safety Data sheets.
