* The WSU Jazz Arts Ensemble will perform at the Art AID 2013 Live Art Auction event to benefit Positive Directions on Wednesday, Oct. 9, at the Abode Venue. For more information, go to http://www.pdiks.com. To purchase tickets, call 263-2214 or stop by 414 S. Commerce.
* WSU will host the Distinguished Scholarship Invitational, one of the largest and most prestigious scholarship competitions in Kansas on Saturday, Nov. 16. Faculty and staff are invited to serve as observers by watching students participate in small group activities and rating them on their leadership skills. The approximate time commitment is 7:30 a.m.-noon. A light breakfast and brief training session is included. * Here are this week's MRC Instructional Technology development sessions -- "Blackboard Tuesday: Intro to Blackboard" at 1:30 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 8, "Intro to Video Instruction" at 11 a.m. Wednesday, Oct. 9, and "Classroom Response Systems (TurningPoint & Alternatives)" at 2 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 10.

* The Pumpkin Run will be held Saturday, Oct. 19. The faculty/staff price registration of $20 is available until Friday, Oct. 18. However, registration is encouraged by Thursday, Oct. 10, to guarantee shirt size. Also, it's a great family run since students (kindergarten through college) are only $15.
* Faculty and staff are invited to the annual Admissions and Financial Aid Workshops for the latest in admissions information, policies and recruiting practices on Tuesday, Oct. 8. The Office of Financial Aid and Scholarships also will present the latest financial aid guidelines and scholarship practices to interested individuals immediately following the admissions session.

* Each year the Academy for Effective Teaching requests nominations for new members. Recent emeritus faculty retirees are eligible to be nominated by current faculty. The nomination process will take place online; look for an email with a link to a survey. Nominations are open now through Friday, Oct. 11.
