* WSU staff and faculty are invited to attend CommonConnections, a new casual forum to discuss topics of interest that contribute to the university's success. The brown bag lunches are scheduled from 12:30-1:30 p.m., the second and fourth Wednesdays starting today (Oct. 9) in 266 Pike Room, RSC. These grassroots forums provide an opportunity for faculty and staff to meet, discuss topics of common interest and identify next steps for progress.

* Professor Edwin Gerber of Courant Institute, NYU, will present a Physics Seminar lecture "Math, Models and Climate Change: How shaving cream moved a jet stream and how mathematics can help us better understand why" at 2 p.m. today (Wednesday, Oct. 9) in 128 Jabara Hall.

* The Fall 2013 Chemistry Department Colloquium will feature Sarah Stoll of the Georgetown University, presenting "Magnetic Nanostructures" at 3:30 p.m. today (Wednesday, Oct. 9) in 224 McKinley Hall.

* Enjoy a Wednesdays in Wiedemann organ concert with Lynne Davis at 5:15 p.m. today (Wednesday, Oct. 9) in Wiedemann Hall. Admission is free.

* The culmination of Shocktoberfest is Songfest on Monday, Oct. 28. Faculty and staff are needed to serve as judges for this highly entertaining event. * The university assessment committee will sponsor the first fall Assessment Symposium from 11:30 a.m.-1 p.m. Friday, Oct. 25, in the Champion's Club at Charles Koch Arena. The topics are data and services available from the Office of Planning Analysis (formerly Institutional Research), and an overview of the 2013 NSSE results.
