File your taxes for free

If your annual income is less than $58,000, you can use www.myfreetaxes.com/bestwsu to file your state and federal income tax returns for free. This service is available because of a partnership between the United Way of the Plains and the IRS.

The myfreetaxes.com/bestwsu site includes helpful tips, and a supplemental checklist of items you might need to prepare your return, and it's available on the website of the Office for Student Money Management -- www.wichita.edu/osmm. Filing your taxes is required before you can complete the FAFSA to apply for financial aid.

Note that non-residents, including international students, cannot use the myfreetaxes.com service. However, the Office of International Education makes available a different tax preparation tool for international students, Glacier -- http://webs.wichita.edu/?u=INTL&p=/Current_Students/GTP/

Contact the Office of International Education at 978-3232 to receive your access code.

Computer workstations and a printer are available in the Office for Student Money Management in 415 Jardine Hall for anyone wishing to prepare their own taxes using either method. Call 978-3254 to reserve a workstation.
