Environmental Finance Center receives $200,000 grant

The Environmental Finance Center (EFC) at Wichita State University's Hugo Wall School of Public Affairs has been awarded a $200,000 grant to provide training and technical help from the Environmental Protection Agency. The grant will provide needed assistance to small water and wastewater systems across the nation with financial and management capacity development.

Wichita State is one of 10 university-based Environmental Finance Centers that are part of the Environmental Finance Center Network, and were collectively awarded $2 million for this national effort. The network recently completed the first round of grants from EPA following competitive bids, and was awarded this second round of funding.

"The EFC looks forward to being a part of this exciting opportunity to work with nine other universities to provide financial and management services to small communities in Kansas, the region and the country," said Angela Buzard, director of EFC.

The EFC Network was one of four awardees for EPA's 2013 Training and Technical Assistance grants to service public water and wastewater systems in urban and rural communities. EPA notes that the funding will help provide water system staff with training and tools to enhance system operations and management practices. This initiative supports EPA's continuing efforts to promote sustainability and public health protection for communities served by small systems.
