Young artists' work on display
Beyond the main gallery, additional exhibit space has been made available through the addition of a glass enclosed display area. This new space has been coined as the "Looking Glass" and will feature art and exhibits assembled by student groups, classes, departments, alumni and many others. Currently, the "Looking Glass" houses a collaborative exhibit between Cadman Gallery Staff and WSU Child Development Center.
Ashley Fritschle's Pre-K classroom of 4- and 5-year-olds were presented with an image of a famous painting. They discussed the techniques that were used to create the artwork including the use of brushstrokes to create movement, color combinations and placement of details. Each child was then given a different coloring sheet that when assembled recreated the famous painting. The young artists took many creative liberties in coloring their section, which when assembled recreated The Starry Night, painted by the Dutch post-impressionist artist Vincent van Gogh in 1889.
The completed image created by Fritschle's class is on display in the Cadman Gallery "Looking Glass," now through Friday, Aug. 22. The exhibit includes the recreated image of The Starry Night as well as artist profiles of the children whose artistic talents contributed to the creating of the completed exhibit. Join the staff of the Child Development Center, Cadman Gallery and Student Involvement for a reception at 2 p.m. Wednesday, June 18, in the Rhatigan Student Center Bluestem Lounge to celebrate the accomplishment of these young artists.
